Fraudulent cheques - lottery scams
Fraudulent cheques - lottery scams
Solution
Someone wrote to me recently with regards to having received a cheque for a lotto game that he had allegedly won. He wanted to know if Mr Frank writing from a free email account was a legitimate representative of the "british national lottery".
I found this question interesting as you shall soon find out.
Well - if you look closely, you will discover this is a game of words. This Frank fella could well be from a "natonal british lottery" although I doubt it exists in the 'legal' sense (i.e. registered with an 'authority').
What he is banking on is you making the 'assumption' that it is The National Lottery (which is the UK lotto's Official Game). You are responsible for your assumptions, not Mr Frank. It's a bit like you assuming you are required to pay Tax or be bound to your governments policies... when you dig into this you quickly discover that they have no authority over you... you just happen to 'assume' they do and thus you give them that authority.
As it stands you could very well be a winner of this game (of Franks invention) and you could very well be eligible for the massive prize that is no doubt being offered. However the prize can only be paid in a currency that MR Frank can issue and this more than likely will not be the currency you gambling on. Anyone can create money (where do you think it comes from in the first place?), the point is - not everyone is going to accept it. If you magically make 1 million dollars, its going to be as valuable as the amount of time you have put into it. Which is Zero.
On the other hand in order to get Franks money, you would have had to pay just a small, tiny fee for courier services, legal stamping and other stuff that he will invent and insist you pay before he hands over his 'precious' currency. His assumption is that you will pay with your currency (i.e. a more widely acceptable one). So you will pay Frank with your standard currency and he will pay you with his. Which one do you think has more value?
So this is what I would do. Play along with Frank. I am sure he is a nice guy, and if you where to meet him in a social environment you would probably get on famously. Anyway - the moment he asks you for money do the following:
1. Make up your own bank and its own currency (x$ = Ex Dollars).
2. Issue Frank with your banks currency in the form of a "bank guaranteed" cheque!
3. Now post it off to Frank,
4. On receipt Frank will send off his cheque made up of his made of his own currency.
While the above may seem an odd response, when you analyze the world you currently live in. This is pretty much what is going on. The funny thing though - we allow the mobsters (banksters) to charge us for our own money/currency/energy.
The biggest scam of all is the money scam. ;-)
Whatever you decide to do!
Have fun!!
